The last time I saw it on a cable movie channel I was talking to a friend about it on the phone. At the time I couldn't put a name on the social order depicted in the film but my friend got it immediately.
"Communism," he said.
He was right of course. I couldn't get it right away because I was used to thinking of Communism as the dirty and grossly inefficient system that had actually been practiced in the Soviet Union, not the neat and sterile hive depicted in THX 1138.
