Quote of the Day

Orson Scott Card on the London bombings:

You can always murder ordinary people if you want to. All it proves is that you're a murderer. It moves Osama bin Laden into the class of men like Ted Bundy -- his body count is rising, but it means nothing except that he loves to kill and hasn't been caught yet.

Keep an eye on Cuba.

President Bush and Secretary of State Rice are planning something:

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has announced the creation of a new post to help "accelerate the demise" of the Castro regime in Cuba.

I have no doubt that the Caring tm and the Compassionate tm are going to throw a fit about "Chimpy McBushhitler's depraved acts of aggression against the Peace-Loving tm people of Cuba."

Varifrank also has his plans for the day Comrade Castro finally goes down:

I have a very large bottle of a fermented adult beverage sitting on ice waiting for the day this bloodsucker ends his reign of death over the people of Cuba. I have a feeling, just a slight hint of a feeling that the day I get to open that bottle is not that far off.

I must confess that I only have a bottle of Samuel Adams in the fridge at the moment.

So Anyway

Varifrank is making fun of Yoko Ono.

Good for him.

Now some people might wish that the poor woman would be left alone. I on the other hand believe that a performance artist who has made a career of striking absurd political and moral poses and emitting incoherent noises deserves to be mocked.

And anyone who struck poses in the effective service of some of the vilest people on Earth simply could not be mocked enough.

By the way, here is my contribution to great festival of Yoko Ono mocking:

Now that the Chauchat was in Jumpspace, Daevagh needed to speak to Dennis. He knocked on the Captain's Cabin door.

"Enter!" Dennis yelled.

The door slid open and Daevagh stepped in.

Dennis was sitting across the lower bunk with his back against the wall. The screen over the desk across the cabin was showing what appeared to be a documentary program.

"What are you watching?" Dav asked.

"A recent episode of a Solomani documentary series," said Dennis. "It's called 'Man's Crisis of Identity in the Latter Half of the Twentieth Century.' The subject of this episode is the question of whether Yoko Ono was actually a fifth Beatle, or just a talentless and inscrutable bore."

This was almost completely beyond Daevagh's comprehension.

"So which was he?" he asked.

"She," said Dennis. "I personally favor the talentless bore point of view."

"I must confess," Dennis continued, "that I've found a roll of duct tape, a high quality audio headset, and one of her early recordings to be quite useful when questioning a prisoner."

"Um . . . okay," said Dav.

"Did you need to speak to me about something?"

"It can wait." Said Daevagh as he slowly backed out of the Captain's Cabin.

A Word From The Guru

Actually two comments out of many:

In an example of where our current public schooling system is taking us, we recently overheard a comment from a middle-aged woman to the effect that the Nips would not have attacked us at Pearl Harbor if it had not been that we hit them first with the A-bomb. (Honest to God!)

It is time to remind ourselves again that O.J. Simpson and Lon Horiuchi are still running free as of now.

Someone Else's Thought For The Day

sms111 at Little Green Footballs wrote:

Leftists, your religion is dying. Its flame is going out in the universe.

Your obsession with a redemption myth and on a utopia that can never happen due to the animal nature of mankind, a nature that you naively refuse to understand, is bad enough.

Your willful recklessness towards dismantling and destroying the current society with little regard to what might replace it - which is most likely a totalitarian regime led by a madman that will kill tens or hundreds of millions, including you and your own families - is a sign of unadulterated mental derangement.

Your de facto alliances with, and apologetics for, the most brutal and oppressive movements on the face of the earth, and your sociopathic disregard for the mass injustice and the horrible deaths of 100 million people your enablement of monsters has already caused, is the final symptom of your madness.

Reasonable people are now being informed of the truth about your religion due to the stunning defeat of your mainstream media's lock-hold on information dissemination, a defeat led by the US-military-created Internet.

This will be your undoing as more reasonable people increase their political and, yes, physical resistance against you. Rathergate was just the very mild beginning.

Your secrets are out; your madness and stupidity exposed; you will not survive.

I think he's got a point...

From today's Washington Times Inside the Ring:
Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, an author and terrorism analyst, says al Qaeda could execute a London-type train bombing "within 24" hours in the United States.
"But why attack here," Gen. McInerney said in an interview, "when you have leftists in America who have aided and abetted the enemy more than Tokyo Rose did in World War II? They don't need to set off bombs. If they set off bombs, they would silence the shrill of leftists in the United States."
Gen. McInerney says the July 7 London bombing was an attempt by Muslim militants to bring down Prime Minister Tony Blair and see him replaced by a left-wing Laborite who would pull troops out of Iraq.

Doctor Walter Williams writing at

What Africa needs, foreign aid cannot deliver, and that's elimination of dictators and socialist regimes, establishment of political and economic freedom, rule of law and respect for individual rights. Until that happens, despite billions of dollars of foreign aid, Africa will remain a basket case.

Someone Else's Thought For The Day

Keith Thompson in Front Page Mag:

Listening to all this, my mind flashed on something a political science professor had said on an American election day many years earlier. The word "idiot" comes from the ancient Greek for those who concentrated solely on their own affairs and took no part in community life. Choosing not to vote, he said, was a decision to stay silent. People who made that choice couldn't consider themselves citizens in any meaningful sense. Was that what we wanted?

I tend to use the word "idiot" to denote individuals whose impact of on public affairs is obstructive or openly malevolent.

For example, anyone with a "repeal concealed carry" sticker on their car.

Thought for the Day

If one were dealing with an honest pacifist then their fundamental error is that he or she treats the state of peace as an absolute value without regard to conditions or consequences. Values are in fact conditional.

Peace is only an affirmative value to those who live in the condition of liberty, that is being rightfully in charge of one's self and able to set the goals for one's own life. Peace cannot be a value to the subjects of a totalitarian socialist state. To the victim of such a state -- the ordinary worker who is bullied by a commissar, the inmate of a slave labor camp, or the occupant of a darkened cell awaiting murder at the hands of the local chekists -- war, either an internal uprising against the socialist masters, or an invasion by an army of liberation, is in fact the positive value.

But if there is anything that I have noticed over the years, it is that most self-proclaimed pacifists are in fact also advocates of totalitarian socialism who have worked within our political system to prevent the overthrow of their Marxist brethren in other nations, and therefore are also accessories to the crimes of these Marxist states.

Isn't it about time that the self-styled peace movement be exposed and dealt with as such?

And Now For Something Completely Different

Aviation humor from Wicked Thoughts:

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.
Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."
Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."
The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."
Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark... and I didn't land."

Someone Else's Thought For The Day

Reading letters from liberals makes me fear that they are going to dislocate their shoulders from patting themselves on the back so much. The way they tell it, the reason they differ from others is that they are so much more compassionate, aware, concerned, nuanced, sophisticated and -- yes -- just plain smarter.

A Question

Did you ever wonder why I call this weblog Living In The Surreal World?

Someone that I would presume to be what is commonly called a liberal sent this e-mail message to the editor of a conservative weblog:

From: Jay Leet (JAYL80@*********)
Subject: (none)

"It's hard to take you seriously when you call it "mustard gas" you ignorant fool. It's "Muster Gas". As if Saddam was killing people with gas made from retard."

Mustard Gas is the common name for a blister agent that was invented and used by both sides in the First World War. (Hitler was hospitalized for exposure to it.)

Here's what one website said on the subject of Mustard Gas as used during that war:

The skin of victims of mustard gas blistered, the eyes became very sore and they began to vomit. Mustard gas caused internal and external bleeding and attacked the bronchial tubes, stripping off the mucous membrane. This was extremely painful and most soldiers had to be strapped to their beds. It usually took a person four or five weeks to die of mustard gas poisoning. One nurse, Vera Brittain, wrote: "I wish those people who talk about going on with this war whatever it costs could see the soldiers suffering from mustard gas poisoning. Great mustard-coloured blisters, blind eyes, all sticky and stuck together, always fighting for breath, with voices a mere whisper, saying that their throats are closing and they know they will choke."

The original plan for the seizure of the island of Iwo Jima called for the saturation bombardment of the island with Mustard Gas munitions. President Roosevelt personally vetoed this part of the plan.

But now a liberal (or as some of them prefer to call themselves, a progressive) decides to strike a pose of intellectual superiority to a conservative by mentally rewriting reality.

Mustard Gas... blank out... "It's 'Muster Gas'".

But reality cannot rewritten by the wish of anyone, no matter what their intentions or ideology. Instead of objectively observing the real world and thus learning how to become the master of it, liberals (or as some of them prefer to call themselves, progressives) willfully ignore the facts of reality and stumble about in a surreal fog from error to error, to ultimately stumble about from disaster to disaster.

The liberals (or as some of them prefer to call themselves, progressives) openly state their desire to rule over the whole of Humanity and then proceed to conclusively demonstrate that they are totally unfit to do so.

What the MSM is interested in...

OK, Mark in Mexico points out that the White House Press Corps really isn't interested in:
1. Terrorism/GWoT
2. Our troops in Iraq
3. Replacing 1, possibly 2, possibly 3 Supreme Court justices
4. G8 / African hunger/debt
6. Social Security
7. Oil prices
8. Nuclear proliferation in Iran and Korea
9. A bloated, corrupt, inefficient United Nations
10. Hurricane aftermath in Florida and Alabama

Ok, possibly #3 since a whopping 15% of the questions asked at the White House Press briefing today.
Terrorism/Global War on Terror and Nuclear Weapons in North Korea and American Military in Iraq got a whopping 3% each.
What was the big winner? With 71% of the questions on a single subject?
The DNC/MSM trying to put Karl Rove on the Grassy Knoll.

Someone Else's Thought For The Day

Her Majesty The Queen has something to say:

In her address, she told those gathered in Horse Guard's Parade that the years of war had not been in vain - but sadly, it could not be claimed the world had been free from conflict or terror since 1945.

"It does not surprise me that during the present difficult days for London, people turn to the example set by that generation, of resilience, humour, sustained courage, often under conditions of great deprivation," she said.

"That example, and those memories, should be kept alive by younger generations as they in turn strive to keep the peace in our troubled world."

Thought for the Day

The assholes who once spat upon American servicemen and called them "baby killers" were all members and partisans of a political movement whose most powerful and consistent members had snuffed out over 110-million human lives, including the lives of many babies.

Quote of the Day

Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualitites, because ... it is the quality that guarantees all others.

You ask: `What is our aim?' I can answer in one word: `Victory!' Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be: for without victory there is no survival.

-- Sir Winston Churchill, First speech in House of Commons as Prime Minister, 13 May 1940

Rant of the Day

I originally published this as a comment over at Political Yen/Yang:

When an anti-particle comes into contact with a normal particle the two particles are annihilated, the subsequent energy release then disrupts the structure of the normal matter around it. What we are confronted with are not human beings in the moral sense of the concept but anti-human beings.

Unlike mere animals they have the capacity for creative thought, but instead of applying their minds to the protection and enhancement of human life they are dedicated to the destruction of life. Mere animals will attack humans out of fear or hunger. Anti-humans attack out of nihilistic hatred of human life.

While animals can be driven off or isolated from human populations, anti-humans retain their capacity for creative thought and will at some point defeat the means of isolation resume their attacks on human populations. If human society is to survive then the cause of anti-human behavior must be eliminated.

Islam must be destroyed.

Someone Else's Thought For The Day

Sure, Al-Qaida goons can massacre helpless civilians at will, but as Robert Mandel points out:

For all the bluster of a Khomenei, a Khadaffy, or a Hussein, how many Dresdens and Tokyos have they in their past? How many einsatzgruppen have they unleashed? Who but the West has shown not only a proclivity, but a passion to turn their entire efforts towards systematic, callous, cold, ruthless, and methodological killing.

We in the Christian West can snuff out civil populations by the hundreds of thousands, or with nuclear weapons by the hundreds of millions, over the course of a night. We can do a better job of it than any jihadi with a rusty knife or explosive vest can even dare to dream of. We just haven't had cause to do so since the end of the Second World War.

The London bombings of 7/7 will only bring us closer to the day we finally release the machinery of death and destruction on the Dar-el-Islam as our grandparents did on National Socialist Germany and Imperial Japan.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled reality.

Pointing out what is and isn't "newsworthy" in the MSM

By way of Lorie Byrd of Polipundit comes this portion of a Ralph Peters article:
Sit back and press the memory button. Remember how, in the wake of 9/11, the experts warned that we’d suffer devastating casualties when our “soft” troops came up against the “battle-hardened” Taliban? We were assured our efforts would fail, that we’d wind up as badly burned as the Soviets and Brits before us; the entire country would take up arms against any foreign invaders.

Didn’t happen. Our military and the CIA delivered a swift, stunning triumph. And our troops are actually welcome.

No one held those errant experts accountable. Now they’re back, pouncing on every scrap of bad news in the hope they’ll be able to say, “We told you so.”

And here’s how our media deal with the undeniable progress made in Afghanistan:

Tens of thousands of girls enrolled in schools? Who cares. Peace in most of the country? Boring.

Democratic elections? Non-story. Economic progress? Less than a non-story.

A construction boom in Kabul? About time journalists had a nice hotel. Afghan troops defending their elected government? Zero interest, dude.

Sixteen GIs lost in a helicopter shot down by terrorists? Now THAT’S news.

It is news, of course. We mourn the loss of every one of our service members. And while every American casualty, colonel or corporal, counts equally, the loss of a team of Navy Seals is an operational blow. We want to know what happened.

The problem is the imbalance in the reporting. My friends who serve or served in Afghanistan are bewildered by the only-bad-news-counts coverage. By any objective measure, Afghanistan’s an incredible, they-said-it-couldn’t-be-done success story. But we only hear that the Taliban is back.

Lorie then points out: "One of the main foreign policy positions of John Edwards during the 2004 primary was that Afghanistan was a mess."
Hmmm...I'll bet that if a Republican had said that, the MSM would be rubbing his or her nose in it.

Think Of It As Socialism In Action

From Wikpedia's article on German bad movie director Dr. (literature) Uwe Boll:

Boll essentially is a modern-day B-movie director. He's able to secure the investors (mostly German, in Hollywood often derisively referred to as "stupid German money"), secure the rights for cheap, picking games with only moderate brand recognition, does all of the actual production himself, and swiftly cranks out a film. While under normal circumstances a director's movies could gross so little he's eventually shut out from every operating studio, Boll is exempt because he funds them under a loophole in German tax law that is supported by contributors and actually rewards films that perform badly, via a writeoff at the end of the year.

If you subsidize crap, you'll get even more crap.
