A Dark Night of the Soul

B. Preston at Junkyard Blog is a bit disturbed at the moment, and I don't blame him.

So I'm worried. I'm not panicked by any means, but I'm a pessimist now. I think we have taken a very strong hand and played it extremely poorly, thanks mostly to internal bickering, recrimination and anti-Americanism on the left and in the press. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think I am. If we stay on the path we're on, no matter who wins in November, we will lose this war. Due to the war's increasing unpopularity we will pull out of Iraq prematurely, it will descend into chaos as the Iranians and al Qaeda and Syria vie for control from without while the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds battle within. We will have painted ourselves into a corner from which we will be unable, for political reasons, to use force. We will repeal the Patriot Act, which has probably been the single biggest reason we haven't had a major attack on our soil since 9-11. We will sit back on our heels while Iran and North Korea continue their nuclear programs, and we will pay dearly for it.

Imagine, for a second, the terrorists on that Islamicist snuff film--the ones who sawed Nicholas Berg's head off while he screamed in agony--armed with a nuclear device. Do you doubt for a second that they would use it to destroy an American city? If you do, you're a fool. But as I've been repeating lately, experience is a dear teacher, and a fool will learn by no other.

I pray that we don't have to learn via that experience or something similar. But I'm not optimistic anymore. We're about to let the fools run the show, and we'll pay for it.
It may be worse than that.

If the our own Party of and for the Despots wins the coming election, not only the Presidency but also one or both houses of Congress, I would expect them to take every measure to see that they don't ever lose power again. Especially if Hillary, whose tendencies toward powerlust and vindictiveness are rather well documented, becomes the actual candidate of that party.

We should expect terror attacks not only from our external enemies, especially after a withdrawal from Iraq, but also a full Leninist reign of terror against anyone that they perceive to be an opponent. Like Lenin, who saw himself and his followers to not be subject to any law or other moral restraint, they will not only violate but may very well openly disavow the Constitution and use any means to cement their power over us. No act will be too heinous to them. We will see mass arrests and imprisonments based on fraudulent grounds. They will command us to disarm ourselves, and when we rightfully refuse they will deliberately commit atrocities against us in order to break our will. They may even perpetrate one or more horrors like the Waco Massacre.

And because submission to their will has never been and never will be an option, we will have no choice but to fight back with every means at our disposal.

As the Despotic Party have wrongfully feared of President Bush, we will have no alternative but to hunt them down and kill every last one of them no matter the cost in lives and treasure to us. And to insure that our children and grandchildren will not have to face the horrors that we faced we may very well believe it necessary to hunt down and kill the children and grandchildren of the Despotists as well.

And they will have no one blame for their ultimate demise but themselves.
