The best example of what happens when you criminalize political opposition is the Roman Civil War.

Gauis Julius Caesar was a republican to the core. He believed in the Roman Republic, and its unwritten constitution. When his political opponents, the Optimates, made it clear that they were going to prosecute him and either exile or execute him, the moment Caesar set down his military command they made war inevitable. Especially since it was clear that they were not interested in following the law, except at their convenience.

Caesar was not given a choice between going to war and destroying the republic or preserving it by going quietly to his doom. He could see that the republic was doomed no matter what his choice was. He could either start a civil war or let Rome slide into a tyranny run by the Optimates. Given that choice, let the dice fly and hope you can put the pieces back together after you win. At least, you can die trying.

The Democrats remind me of the Optimates in many ways. William Clinton seems like a 21st century version of Pompey Magnus. That Bush has not played Caesar is a tribute to two things: George W.'s fundamental decency, and the fact that the United States is yet not in as bad a shape politically as the late Roman Republic.

Of course being a "progressive" means never having to pay attention to the lessons of Human History.

Unfortunately President George W. Bush is being a good Christian gentleman is a era that is dominated by those who seek to live and rule by the sword. This is not going to end well.

Democrats seem to be drifting toward the concept of prosecution of former office holders by criminalizing policy differences. That's a certain formula for civil war; perhaps not immediate, but inevitable. The absolute minimum requirement for democratic government is that the loser be willing to lose the election: that losing an election is not the loss of everything that matters. As soon as that assurance is gone, playing by the rules makes no sense at all.

OH NO!

There's been another bridge closing here in Minnesota.

Update—after an especially warm spring day, MN-DOT inspectors discovered that one set of bridge bearings had once again reached its stop bracket. The stop bracket limits how far the bearing can slide, and it prevents the bridge from sliding off of the pier and falling into the water. Once the span hit the stop bracket, forces from the heating and cooling of the span apparently pushed the problem pier two inches further out of plumb. It also caused some bolts on the structure to shear off. As a result, MN-DOT closed the bridge at 10AM on Friday, April 25, 2008.

The 2008 legislative session pushed though a highway bonding bill. The Lowry Bridge replacement is one of the high priority projects. The bridge is expected to be started in 2009 and be completed by the end of 2010. The plan is to install a signature span. Finalists include a towering arch design, a single tower cable stayed bridge, and a more routine concrete box bridge.

I drove over this bridge on Wednesday afternoon.

Unfortunately it looks like our glorious state legislature (dominated by the Donks) will once again blow money on aesthetics over function. Bigger kickbacks I suppose.

Here is about a thousand words on why I will never vote for a member of the Democratic Party.



Here is an interesting website on the Massacre of the Branch Davidians.

Fifteen years ago a small community in Texas was attacked by two packs of predatory animals.

The first pack was a federal agency whose functions were in part a deliberate and explicit violation of the charter and supreme law under which the Federal Government was established.

Even under regulations in effect at the time, the BATF could have sent a couple of agents in coats and ties in a plain government issue sedan to the Branch Davidian residence and asked the federally licenced firearms dealer living there to open his place of business and records to examination. Or if they needed to place the leader of the congregation under arrest they could have taken him into custody while he was out on his morning run. Given Mr. Koresh’s past history of cooperation with local law enforcement they could have simply asked him to come down to the local sheriff’s station.

The BATF did none of the above.

Instead the BATF attempted to stage a military-style assault, code-named Operation Showtime, in order to impart a positive impression of the agency upon the socialist filth that had just moved into the White House. Never mind all the innocent women and children who could have been maimed or killed during the raid.

After the BATF goons were driven off another pack of predators, the so-called Hostage Rescue Team of the FBI, descended upon the Branch Davidians.

If it had been necessary to take the Branch Davidian residence by force a trainee platoon from the Benning School for Boys could, in accordance to their training, have entered the building and taken down any armed individuals without deliberately harming the non-combatants. Instead, the HRT, the alleged experts in hostage rescue, proceeded to terrorize the people within the residence. And when the Branch Davidians refused to surrender, they were exterminated by the HRT.

The HRT used some armored vehicles to destroy the exits from the building and to allow the ambient wind to blow through the structure while other armored vehicles injected CS gas, known to be inflammable and toxic to children and elderly persons, into the wooden structure.

And then the HRT fired incendiary devices into the building.

While the Branch Davidian residence burned to the ground on live television, HRT gunmen stationed behind the building out of sight of the TV cameras shot anyone who attempted to escape the fire from the rear of the building.

The Democrat majority in both houses of Congress were not the slightest bit appalled by the atrocity, instead of condemning the president for his actions and initiating the process of impeaching and removing President Clinton, they chose instead to condemn the victims and those who dared to speak up for them.

Given the choice of obeying the supreme law or violating the law, they chose to violate the law.

Given the choice of preserving innocent life or destroying it, they chose to destroy innocent life.

President Clinton and the Democratic Party could have obeyed the Constitution, the Supreme Law to which the President, the Congress, and the Federal Government in general were subject and stopped the terrorization and murder of the Branch Davidians, but instead chose to violate the Supreme Law.

And like a number of illiterate barbarian chieftains before him, President Clinton and his party used the murder of the Branch Davidians to demonstrate to the rest of us what would happen to anyone who refused to submit to their will. Instead of standing up for the rights and lives of Americans they chose instead to terrorize and murder Americans.

And if you think that attitude and ideology is uniquely Clintonistic I will you disabuse you of that notion:

Since then the name “democrat” has become in my mind synonymous with the concept of “murderer.” If there is one complaint I have about President Bush it is that he has done nothing to bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.

Back when I thought that I was still employed I bought a DVD copy of the HOUSE OF CARDS trilogy. An interesting series. Its too bad the villain is a conservative politician, but is was fun to watch. I strongly suspect that is may have been source material for some of the paranoid Bush Derangement Syndrome theories that are circulating in the leftist mentosphere.

Mark Whittington wrote an alternative history of what Francis Urquhart, the protagonist of HOUSE OF CARDS, would have done if he were the British Prime Minister on September 11, 2001. You can read it here.

I decided to take off where mark left off and invent an American relative of of F.U. and have him run for president. This should be fun.

The lensman was so shocked that he rowed his dinghy out to question the crew member left aboard the yacht.

He asked the crewman, “What the hell are you doing?”

The crewman said that diesel fuel had gotten into the bilge and he was told to dump it.

When the photographer pointed out that the yacht was moored in coastal waters near shellfish beds and people swimming, the crewman replied, “Whatever.”

NewsBusters points out the vast difference in the way Time magazine reports on two similar stories.

Back on August 28 we posted the sad story of the death of a motorcycle policeman who was killed while in service as a motorcade escort for president George W. Bush. What brought the story to our attention was the shocking way that Time Magazine reported the story. With a headline that blared "Bush Motorcade Kills Cop," Time made it appear that the officer died as a result of... well, President Bush.

Well, today, we have a similar story to report. A motorcycle policeman was killed today while in service as a motorcade escort for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The previous incident was headlined as if Bush was responsible for the unfortunate death, but today's Time headline was not so harsh in its tone when a Clinton was involved. "Officer Killed Escorting Clinton," is how Time magazine reported this incident.

A LANDMINE blew up in the home of a religious cleric in southern Afghanistan, killing the mullah, two of his sons and two other men who had been preparing an attack, police said today.

The cleric's wife was critically wounded in the blast in their compound in the southern province of Helmand late yesterday, and a daughter was hurt, provincial police chief General Mohammad Hussein Andiwal said.

The bodies of the mullah and his two sons, both under 15 years old, remained at the site of the blast, he said.

Other people in the compound said two other men were killed but their bodies had been removed before police arrived, he said.

Video of the council meeting showed city officials trashing the Marines as "the president's own gangsters" and "trained killers" who are known for "death and destruction and maiming." One of the council members complained that our men and women in uniform were responsible for "horrible karma." Mayor Tom Bates offered to "help" the Marines evacuate.

It's the 28th year protestors have crossed the line to mark the feast of the holy innocents. The Catholic tradition commemorates King Herrod's slaughter of innocent children in Bethlehem. The protestors say modern day Herrods are backed by the military and the nuclear and space commands at Offutt.

I was not aware of the fact that the Roman Catholic Church was in the habit of defaming the protectors of innocent children (and civilization in general) as baby killers.

Since Lenin's coup d'etat (where he and his goons overthrew a democratically elected government) in 1917 the Soviets and other empowered followers of Marx have through starvation and deliberate homicide killed no less than 110 million people, including no small number of helpless children. That's more than three thousand deaths a day on average. But who do the so called activists for peace declare to be evil? Those who defend the remnant of civilization from the followers of Marx.

In reality it is the willing servants and enablers of mass-murderers who are defaming the those who resist the mass-murderers. This would have been an opportunity to continue to rant about the inherent evil of peace activism and to issue another call to round up and shoot the lot of them. Because as far as I'm concerned shooting a so called peace activist is no more an act of murder than putting down a rabid animal.

Snow Day

There was at least three inches of snow on the ground and it still coming down, so I called the Truck Driving School to confirm that they weren't going to have any trucks leaving their yard for on the road training. They weren't. So I'm taking the day off.

My next attempt to do the Minnesota road test will be on January 4th. So taking the day off should not have an adverse impact.

For every idealistic peacemaker willing to renounce his self-defence in favour of a weapons-free world, there is at least one warmaker anxious to exploit the other’s good intentions.

I would argue that disarming is not an action resulting from a good intention, but from a bad one.

Because an individual, or a group, can choose to obtain their survival and well being through the use of force against the productive persons or groups it is necessary for the potential victims of such violence to be armed and mentally prepared to to respond with force.

Peace is simply the absence of enemies. It is the state of being where one is not subject to the will of a hostile power, be it an individual, a group, or a nation.

In practice, peace can only be obtained through the forcible suppression or outright destruction of the aggressors. To obtain peace an individual or a nation must have superior firepower and the will to use it. In order to avoid being subject to the will of aggressors those persons or nations which disarm themselves must enter into a dependent relationship with those are remain armed. Disarmament is therefore not an act resulting from a good intention.

At best a pacifist is a parasite. In present practice most pacifists morally condemn the act of self-defense and therefore become accessories to acts of violence carried out by aggressive individuals, groups, or nations. In effect, they've become part of the problem.

And as a rule I favor including pacifists in the solution to the problem of aggressive violence.

Comrade Professor Walters should be hanged from the neck until he's dead.

In his act of devotion to the new incarnation of Moloch, otherwise known as Gaia, Walters has repudiated the Human Right of Life. In compliance to a totally nonsensical doctrine he is calling for the punishment of those families, who by accident or design, have more than an arbitrary number of children with the alternative being abortion or sterilization.

In other words, he is calling for the act of Human Sacrifice.

Walters has willfully rejected the fact that Human Life is the foundation of all moral values. And if the sacrifice of helpless children isn't evil, then what is?

The fact of the matter is that we live in a dynamic universe. Variations in the average planetary temperature occur as part of a natural cycle and killing helpless children will have absolutely no effect on it. We must further recognize the fact that those who deny the Human Right of Life are nothing less than Enemies of Mankind.

Because some of the students had attendance issues I got to drive one of the tractor-trailer units around the back lot all by myself. Until the emergency brake hose broke.

"Gabby" the instructor was not pissed off when I stalled the truck on the on ramp on Friday. He was merely annoyed. What did in fact piss him off was when I stopped on a set of railroad tracks.

Why do I somehow feel that getting a college education these days must in some way involve being lobotomized?

Andrew Borntreger (A Marine) rewiews EL TOPO, a Mexican surrealist western movie favored by John Lennon and Yoko Ono (Two Useless Idiots).

Mr. Borntreger has a number of interesting things to say about EL TOPO, such as:

The story contains threads of Christianity, but it pulls heavily from Buddhism. If you started slapping me with a fish, saying, "This is Buddhism." I could not tell if you were serious or using it as an excuse to assault me.

Jodorowsky also wrote a Eurocomic series titled THE INCAL LIGHT which was published in HEAVY METAL magazine back in the 1980's. He used a lot of weirdness for the sake of weirdness titles and terms such as Technopope, Enconomat, and Purple Endoguard in it.

Jodorowsky also had an opportunity to direct an adaptation of DUNE before David Lynch did, and he blew it. It would certainly have been a more surreal film (he cast Salvidor Dali as the emperor) than the Lynch version. But we would never have received the concept of the "killing word."

Fifth day of truck driver school.

Went out on actual streets. Got yelled at by the instructor for cutting too close to the corners. Still need to work on the shifting.

While I was exiting the driver side of the tractor unit to see if I hit a cone I tripped and fell a few feet to land on my backside.

Maybe a small bruise on the right posterior and a slightly bruised ego but nothing serious.

Let's call this depraved act what it is. Human Sacrifice. It appears that Molech's new name is Gaia.
