There was once a time when a divine being was held responsible for all instances of a natural phenomena. This phenomena was called paganism.
It was discovered that all natural phenomena was actually natural. That no divine being was responsible for any of it. It was then believed that one divine being was responsible for the entire universe. This phenomena was called Monotheism. This being was commonly called God.
We're supposed to believe that God was equal to the tribal deity of a bunch of goatherds?
