A Draft Between The Ears

From Cox and Forkum:

Nobody personally I know on the political Right wants a revival of the draft.

Nobody in the Armed Forces that I knew, now or when I served in the early eighties, wanted a revival of the draft.

No one, and I mean NO ONE, that I was even remotely acquainted with, either a Drill Instructor or any other individual in a training position, wanted to waste their time and effort to attempt to train an unwilling and unmotivated conscript.

AND ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ON THE SHARP END WANTS AN UNWILLING AND UNMOTIVATED CONSCRIPT NEXT TO THEM IN THEIR FOXHOLE OR AS A MEMBER OF THEIR SQUAD ON A COMBAT PATROL!!!!

When I was in One Station Unit Training for Infantry (Alpha Company, Ninth Battalion, Second Infantry Training Brigade) at Fort Benning in the Spring of 1982, the Drill Sergeants, in their apparently infinite wisdom, let us trainees discuss the question of whether or not we wanted to see a revival of the draft.

The collective wisdom of the trainee grunts at the time was something to the effect of. "NO F**KING WAY!"

The deliberate placement of the unwilling and unmotivated conscript into a combat situation will further endanger our soldiers and will effectively aid our enemies in the accomplishment of their operational and strategic objectives.

Only a neo-communist piece of filth like Charles Rangel and his Despocratic comrades could take a measure that is only properly used in the direst of national emergencies and turn it into an act of treason.
