Dealing With The Enemy

Today's Cox and Forkum cartoon:

Check Your Six

The late Mr. Jihadi could have stayed home and lived a normal human life. Instead he chose to be a member of a band of brigands. As we used to say at the Benning School for Boys, "he raised his own hand."

(Les now performs a mock Nazi salute)
(In his pajamas?)
(He's a blogger, of course he is.)

Under normal battlefield conditions anyone who is not absolutely signifying their surrender is properly considered a target. Given the jihadi habits of booby-trapping bodies and attacking while faking a surrender it's a bloody miracle that any of them are being taken alive.

And if the Left want to whine about the American armed forces committing atrocities then they are a bunch of bloody hypocrites. The armed forces of their beloved Soviet Union routinely carried out massacres of POW's and civilians during the Second World War starting with the mass extermination of thousands of Polish Officers and Sergeants in 1939 in their half of Poland. Which the Soviet Socialists then conveniently blamed on their competitors and former allies, the National Socialists of Germany. (If anything, the Nazi-Soviet War of 1941-1945 could be characterized as a drive-by shooting carried out on an industrial scale.)

When I was in the U.S. Army back in the Eighties we had the entirely reasonable expectation of either being summarily killed by regular Soviet troops or the KGB units following them or being shipped off to a slave labor camp in Siberia if any of us surrendered. One of my fellow soldiers, whose grandparents has escaped Russia a half-step ahead of the Red Army by hijacking a ship, actually asked me if he could assume my identity in the event that I was killed.
