Quote of the Day

From the Marine Corps Times:

This is making a lot of us think about not reenlisting... You have to think about whether it is worth risking your neck for someone who will turn around and shoot at you. We didnÂ’t come here to fight a war. We came here to help.

-- Specialist Cliff Ferguson, 527th Engineer Battalion, United States Army

I don't blame him for raising the question.

When I was in the Army during President Reagan's first term the Marxists were on a rampage in Central and South America and their ultimate sponsors, the Soviet Union, appeared to be unbeatable. And sitting outside the main gate of Fort Benning a mob of self-styled "peace activists" were having a hissy-fit because the United States Army was training members of the Army of El Salvador to hunt down and destroy the gangs of Marxist murderers that infested their homeland.

I could see no valid reason why the mob outside the front gate acted as they did, nor could I see any reason why I as a member of the armed forces of the United States had to protect their worthless carcasses as well as the lives of good and decent people. If anything, I believed that it would have been nice if the mob outside the front gate and others like them could be cast out of Human Civilization and experience Marxism in practice from the victim's point of view.

I have come to my present conclusion that the mob outside the front gate and their comrades throughout the United States and the rest of the world are basically malignant personalities who are not capable of, or willing to, living productively. Therefore, in order to give themselves an illusion of virtue they execute a mental inversion and deem human life as it exists in the real world to be evil and invent and practice ideologies, such as Islam, Environmentalism, and the various brands of Socialism, that allow them strike poses and to feel good about thwarting and ultimately destroying human beings.

In short, the mob outside the front gate and their bretheren are nothing more than vermin. I can only wish that we could treat them as such.

The basic fact is that giving up the defense of our lives, our families, our nation, and our civilization is simply not an option. I would hope that Specialist Ferguson sees that too.
