(TV5) Mount Pleasant--You usually find college students hanging out at the Taco Bell, not protesting it. But that's what's happening in Mount Pleasant. A group of students from Central Michigan University are participating in a hunger strike to protest low wages and poor working conditions of South Florida farmers who grow tomatoes for the Taco Bell fast food chain. One of the nice things about working for Border Foods is that every paycheck comes with a twenty-percent off coupon for meals at any Border Foods restaurant including their Taco Bell franchises.
The students are members of the Student- Farmworker Alliance. They plan to take three day shifts, forgoing meals, and have set up a tent city on a campus lawn.
I'll have to drop in for a bite soon.
Of course we could also ask a question of the caring and compassionate champions of the peasants and livestock, did the thought ever cross whatever passes for your mind that the alternative to a crappy job with crappy wages is NO JOB AND NO WAGES AT ALL?
No. The thought never does, but the campus Marxoids will continue to strike their feel-good poses at the expense of real productive people.
