Someone Else's Thought For The Day

There comes a time when a man must chop up meat (preferably that he killed and gutted himself with a knife, spear or bow, but rifle fire or a punt gun is certainly an acceptable modern substitute) and apply it to fire, while quaffing ale and mead, insulting his foes (like that nancy-boy Mohammed chap and his boyfriends), scratching, belching and generally fuzzing the line between civilized and barbarous.

Meanwhile...On The Left Coast

The Writer's Guild of America may go on strike on November 1st. This would have zero impact on me as I plan on producing the film based on the screenplay that I'm presently writing. But union goonery does have an adverse impact on other people.

For example:

About 10 years ago, AFTRA contacted me and said that if I did not pay more than $700 immediately to join the union, they would stop me from doing an acting job I'd already been hired for--and which paid only about $100. When I refused to pay, AFTRA forced the employer to fire me.

Mr Pisaturo, the victim of this appalling and unjust act goes on to say:

As philosopher Ayn Rand wrote of the mentality of those who try to get their way by force, "An Attila never thinks of creating, only of taking over." The Hollywood unions are nothing more than legalized extortion rings--that try to take over the creative production of others. Union persecution of non-union actors and writers does not stop when a strike begins. When the unions go on strike, they don't merely refuse to work; they use the threat of force to prevent others from working.

Let's just say that I'm going to avoid dealing with unions as much as possible.

Meanwhile in Wisconsin

Folks in Minnesota often make jokes about Wisconsin residents.

This is not the time for a joke.

CRANDON, Wis. - An off-duty sheriff's deputy who killed six young people fired 30 rounds of ammunition after he burst into a home where friends had gathered, investigators said Monday.

Tyler Peterson, 20, who later died after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement officers, had been in a relationship with one of the victims, authorities said at a news conference.

"They were in a relationship for a few years," said Police Chief John Dennee. "They had broken up and gone back and forth."

The rampage raised questions in the remote northern Wisconsin community about how Peterson could have met requirements to become a law enforcement officer. No psychological testing was performed, but he had undergone other background checks and completed all required training by the state, authorities said.

"We had no idea, obviously, that anything like this would ever occur," said Dennee. "Once we realized that he was our suspect, he was no longer a cop."

The rifle used in the shootings is the type used by the sheriff's department, but investigators had not confirmed that the rifle he used came from law enforcement.

Peterson fled the home and was later found at a residence in nearby Argonne, authorities said. In phone conversations after he fled, he identified himself as the shooter.

Killed in the rampage were six young people who were either students or graduates of Crandon High School. They were at the house to share pizza and watch movies during the school's homecoming weekend. Classes were canceled Monday, and many teens went to a local church to meet with counselors.

The victims were identified as Jordanne Murray, Katrina McCorkle, Leanna Thomas, Aaron Smith, Lindsey Stahl and Bradley Schultz. Autopsies were scheduled to be completed Monday.

Pastor Bill Farr read a statement from the deputy's family in which relatives expressed their shock and sorrow.

"Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and their friends. We are grieving for your losses. We feel a tremendous amount of guilt and shame for the acts Tyler committed," it said.

It continued: "We may never receive the answers we all seek. Like those close to Tyler we are in shock and disbelief that he would do such terrible things. This was not the Tyler we knew and loved."

But it makes perfect sense to the self-styled Progressives to disarm everyone else and leave them helpless in the face of a monopoly of armed force by the agents of the State.

More and more I have to believe that the self-styled Progressives are a menace to human life and human society.

What are your questions on this block of instruction?

Socialogical Data Point

From a John Weeks hobby page:

Note that the bridge is covered with graffiti. I only remember two bridges over the Mississippi River that had any graffiti, and both are located on entrance roads into the Leech Lake Indian Reservation. No commentary here, just a reporting of the facts.

I'm pretty sure there was graffiti on the old I-35W bridge before it went bye-bye.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled reality.

Meanwhile...Across The Ocean

This makes perfect sense to a socialist:

Ten white farmers appeared in court in Zimbabwe yesterday accused of growing crops on their land — in a country where millions of people will need food aid within the next few months.

What we have here, will be a very visible textbook example of a famine that was deliberately created by a socialist state.

This won't stop the true believers from continuing to believe in socialism.

What Would I Like To Do?

Make a movie based on a thirty-year old science fiction role playing game involving teen angst, patricide, illegal psychic powers, spaceships, machine guns, digital watches, and a planet full of folks who think that they speak German.

I'm up to page 60 on the script at the moment.
