Hitler is not Bush

When I first heard that President Bush had flown into Baghdad on Thanksgiving to have dinner with the soldiers there my thought was, "that is cool beyond belief."

President Bush has also visited wounded servicemen in our military hospitals.

The reason I brought this up is that in The Mask Of Command, John Keegan recounts an incident where Adolf Hitler was having dinner served to him in the dining car of his private train when it stopped at a station when another train, loaded with wounded soldiers returning from the Eastern Front, stops beside Hitler's private train.

Hitler had the stewards in the dining car pull down the shades so he wouldn't have to see the other train and its passengers.

Another point to keep in mind for those who have made a big deal out of Komrade Kerry's service in Vietnam is that Adolf Hitler was never drafted, he volunteered to be one of the frontsoldaten.

If I recall correctly Hitler made a big deal about that too.

What a lot of people don't realize about the American war effort in Vietnam is that while the Democrats floundered about when they were charge, Nixon won that war by bombing the Communists holding the North into submission. (And coincidentally validated Douhet's, et al's, theory that wars could be decided by strategic bombing.)

The fact of the matter is that we didn't lose Vietnam. The Democratic majority in the Congress (some of whom are still there) basically handed the Free South over to the Communist North on a silver platter by refusing to provide material support during the final Communist invasion of the South.
